For Ridley Scott's Egyptian epic, we combined modern technology and traditional crafts to create the armour for the character ‘Moses’ (Christian Bale), and his army. We used traditional leather making skills to create the many cuirasses seen in the film, whilst using digital model making and 3D printing to create Moses' helmet and the details and decorations on the armour.
A challenge for this project was finding a way to make the many sets of scale male armour worn by most of the army as well as Moses and his generals. Many designs of scales were tested then narrowed down to one which was mass produced in a lightweight polyurethane material. The scales were then metal plated and assembled to create the final suits of scale armour.
