When Wonder Woman appeared in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, costume designer Michael Wilkinson created a phenomenal costume that emphatically moved the character into her next era.

And, after being treated to just 16 tantalising lines of dialogue and seven minutes of screentime in BvS, fans were eager to see more of the Amazonian princess.

For 2017’s Wonder Woman, with costume design by the legendary Lindy Hemming, FBFX’s role was to refine and modify Wilkinson’s design, while staying as faithful as possible to his creation.

The project began with photogrammetry in our studio to capture high resolution 3D scans of lead actor Gal Gadot, and a reworking of the digital designs to incorporate subtle aesthetic changes and modifications for fit and comfort.

Although the final suit remains true to the BvS version, virtually every part of it was modified and re-cast. Our aim was to make the suit as lightweight and flexible as possible, meaning dozens of different materials were tested to find the perfect combination.

To achieve a completely realistic metal finish, FBFX developed a new technique that allowed an actual metal plating to be applied without affecting the armour's flexibility.

Another task on this production was to re-create the Amazon warrior designs produced by Lindy Hemming's in-house team, manufacturing large numbers in lightweight, stunt-safe materials. Each design was faithfully replicated, reproducing every detail, texture and surface finish precisely, then beautifully finished by our in-house art finishing department.
