THE RISING TIDE

CNC milling robot has been very successful is the world of fine art sculpture. In many instances sculptors will create small maquettes or models of their art work which can then be scaled up using 3D scanning and CNC milling. In this instance however, artist Jason deCaires Taylor worked with digital artist Scott Eaton to create his striking artwork 'The Rising Tide', as a digital sculpture from the outset.

The final digital sculpture, which fused the body form of a shire horse and oil extraction machinery, was milled out full size at FBFX . The polystyrene horse body which was milled with 2 variations of neck and head , was then moulded by the artists team and cast in concrete. The final artwork was installed in the river Thames in central London in 2015.
