The Company
|
|
Founded in 1993, FBFX has become one of the UK's leading suppliers of props and costume props to the film and entertainment industry,
having contributed to more than 30 major motion pictures and numerous television and stage productions.
"We always aim to offer our clients creative solutions, combined with the widest possible range of production techniques, to create props and costumes of the highest quality."
Special Effects
From the very start of FB-FX, special effects costume making has been one
of our core activities and over the years it is an area we have
tried to make our own. Some of our earliest projects were making lightweight yet convincing armour for opera and ballet companies. Since then this type of work has remained an integral part of what we do, and over the years the skills and techniques we used early on have evolved to make us the UK's leading company in this field.
These techniques enable us to use a huge range of materials to create
armour and special effects costume for all uses. Whether it be custom made
suits of full plate mail armour for a leading artist, weighing a fraction
of a metal suit, full space suits with their own ventilation units to keep
actors cool or stunt double costumes which remain identical in looks to
the original costume yet are soft and protective.
Experience has taught us that with the range of skills at our disposal,
anything is possible.

Lifecasting
Mould Making is essential for most projects. As a result, FBFX has
developed methods for moulding just about any shape and size of
object.
As well as moulding inanimate objects, it is also necessary to
take moulds of people. This is still a fundamental process for
special effects costume making, but also has many other applications.
Working with the industries most experienced life casting professionals,
this potentially unpleasant process can be completed quickly,
safely and with the minimum of discomfort to the subject.

Action Props
Action props form a very exciting and interesting part of the
work at FB-FX.
An action prop can be anything from the smallest hand held item
to a large set prop. Something that all action props have in common,
is that whatever the piece, it will need to be seen working live
on camera.
The challenge in making these sorts of props comes not just from
creating items with high levels of detail and finish, but also
in creating accurate and reliable mechanisms that can perform
on cue and be filmed in close up.
FB-FX has been able to combine the experience of making close
up props with engineering skills to create working items with
a stunning attention to detail and the highest degree of realism.
SFX Costume
From the very start of FBFX, special effects costume making has
been one of our core activities. Over the years this is the area
for which we have become best known. Some of our earliest projects
were making light weight yet convincing armour for opera and ballet
companies. Since then we've created many types of challenging
costumes, suits of lightweight armour, spacesuits with their own
ventilation systems, robots with electronic voices, protective
costumes for stunt performers, in fact we've made literally thousands
of costumes, and over the years the skills and techniques available
to us have evolved to the point where virtually anything is possible.

Electronics
Our companies' understanding of electronic methods is vital in the world
of modern props & special effects.
Over the years our knowledge and enthusiasm for electronics has grown
considerably. Now with the advances in the technology available we have
been able to be ever more ambitious with the type and complexity of
electronics installed in our products.
Electronics have been an important part in many pieces of our work and
have enabled us to add extra dimensions in terms of sound, light and
control. Using digital technology we have been able to install complex
devices into spaces where it was impossible to fit more traditional
electronic designs. We are also able to produce our own custom circuit
boards and have the facility to program our own microcontrollers, and so
can offer exact solutions to client specifications.
